WHERE THE CRUDE OIL CAME FROM
As most of the views know there was no crude oil in Aruba, it was all imported from Lake Maracaibo in Venezuela.  The refinery was built in Aruba because of the instability of the Venezuelan government in the 1920's.
There were numerous "camps" around Lake Maracaibo that were built solely for the personnel who worked in the oil fields, exploring, drilling, extracting and shipping the crude to Aruba in the case of Esso and Curacao in the case of Shell.
There are numerous web sites depicting these "camps" much like this web site depicts the Lago refinery and Lago Colony, the "camp" on Aruba.
These are links to some of these web sites.
