LAGO TELEPHONE EXCHANGE
The Lago telephone exchange served both the refinery and the Colony.  This was a modern dial exchange with mechanical rotary switching.  All calls within the Lago Concession could be made by dialing a four digit number.  To call outside the Concession you had to call and get a outside line connected to the Island telephone system.
To make a overseas call you had to go to the Main Office Building and book a call and use a phone in the Office.  This was very time consuming, expensive and few overseas call were made, people depended on cablegrams.
BELOW IS A PHOTOGRAPH OF THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.  THIS WAS CROPPED FROM A COLOR PHOTO OF LAGO COLONY TAKEN FROM HIGH UP ON THE CAT CRACKER.  AFTER CROPPING OUT THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE I MADE IT BLACK AND WHITE SO IT COULD BE SEE BETTER.  THE AMERICAN LEGION BUILDING IS JUST ABOVE THE TELEPHONE EXCHANGE AND NUMBER TWO POWER HOUSE IS ACROSS THE STREET BUT COPPED OUT OF THE PICTURE.
