Hello there,
I found your website on the lake tankers in Aruba of which my mother's
cousin Bill McMaster has been in a lot of contact and has a a lot of
information on the site. My grandfather was in Aruba in the
40s-early 50s until he had a heart attack and had to come home after
around 6 months in the hospital. He died in the late 60s and my
grandmother died in 2000.
I unfortunately have not a lot of information and am trying to find out
more about my grandfather as I never got to meet him (I was born in
1981, making me 28!).
His name was Francis Caldwell of Islandmagee (possibly Frank to mates),
and I think he worked on the tugboats from the early to mid 40s. I do
have this photograph, of which I enclose a copy, which shows my
grandfather, my mother as a baby, my grandmother, my aunt Sheila, and an
unknown American, who came to visit after my grandfather returned home
for the last time. I can only estimate this photo was taken in about
1952-3 as my mother was only born in 1951. I am also interested in the
unknown American. He arrived with a Dark skinned man who I can only
guess took the photo, but apparently both were friends of Franks.
Anyone who could recognize either my grandfather or the American would
give me something. (my grandmother, mum and aunt never made the trip to
Aruba) Unfortunately the people who could answer the questions are not
here anymore!
Thanks for taking the time to read this,
Kind Regards,
