My dad joined Esso (London) in '38 & sailed on tankers, then transferred to Aruba & captained Lake Fleet tankers until they disbanded. He transferred to the tugs & finally retired in Nov '65. He lived at the BQ until my mom, Olive, & sister joined him in early '40. They lived in the Colorado Point houses, then in a 3-room on Bird Cage Row, then when I was small in for a year or two and finally settled in #56 probably around '52 or '53. I can't remember the exact date but #56 was always my home and how I loved it and miss it. My mom was an amazing gardener. We had hibiscus, oleander, bougainvillea, star of Venezuela, sweet William, frangipani, multicolored crotons, one huge flamboyant tree, and more. We even had an almond tree. My mom & dad used the fallen fruit for golf practice. They would hit into them into the lagoon. I munched on the ones that lasted long enough to get ripe. |
