"GERMAN SUBMARINE FIRES ON OIL REFINERIES ON ARUBA"
February 12, 1942, German submarines invaded the Caribbean Sea, sank three tankers with 17,400 tons by the coast of Curacao and Aruba and fired at the oil refineries on these islands where the raw oil from Venezuela is processed.
Due to the lost tankers the already heavily effected oil transportation to England and the United States suffered tremendously.
Curacao and Aruba are in Dutch possession.  After Holland's capitulation in May of 1940 these islands were taken over by England, and later by the United States after they entered the war.  The submarines fired at factories that lubricated the war machinery.  Thousand of tons of oil burned.  The oil refineries were destroyed.
